ITMA is delighted to announce that the Cullinane Archive Collection of Irish dance, created by Dr John Cullinane, will be housed in the Irish Traditional Music Archive thanks to an agreement reached between Dr John Cullinane, An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha and ITMA.

ITMA was honoured to receive the John Mac Namara Collection in May this year, a generous donation from his widow Joan and family. The renowned founder and leader of both the Castle Céilí Band and the Green Linnet Céilí Band died on the 3rd July 2019.

Summer 2021 saw ITMA's longest serving member of staff Sadhbh Nic Ionnraic say goodbye to colleagues after 33 years as the organisation's Administrator.

The Irish Traditional Music Archive is delighted to announce the initiation of The Thomas McCarthy Collecting Project with the first field recording trips of the project taking place in July 2021.

The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) and the Arts Office of Clare County Council are delighted to announce that the second Duala: Creator-in-Residence Scheme has been awarded to joint applicants Tara Breen and Nuala Kennedy. Ag Lorg Ár Líne – Clare Women: Listening and Performing will premiere online on Friday 17 September, as part of Culture Night 2021.

ITMA is delighted to announce that it has been awarded Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2021 funding from The Heritage Council of Ireland for its project “Positive Negatives: Unlocking the Image Collection of the Irish Traditional Music Archive.”

The Irish Traditional Music Archive greatly regrets the recent death in Buxton, Derbyshire, of Seán Corcoran (1946–2021) who collected traditional music, song and dance extensively in the field for ITMA from 1994 to 2001.

Dublin City Libraries (DCL), and the Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) are delighted to announce a series of individual live interviews and Q/A sessions with ‘Drawing from the Well’ Artists Daoirí Farrell, Steve Cooney, and Aoife Ní Bhriain. 

A new position of Digital Archivist will arise in May 2021 at the Irish Traditional Music Archive/Taisce Cheol Dúchais Éireann.

ITMA has been chosen by the NLI as a subject specialist to collaborate with them on curating a collection of websites relating to Irish traditional music, song and dance for the NLI Web Archive.
