    The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance.     Make your donation go further: a donation of €250 or more in any tax year is worth an additional 44.93% to ITMA. So for €50 more, ITMA can claim an additional €112.33 tax back from revenue.

    Irish-based donors can see their donations augmented by the State through the CHY3 form, which makes any donation above €250 worth €362.33 towards ITMA’s archival work, at no additional cost to you.

    ITMA is eligible for 501(c)3 donations, so for potential donors based in the USA, donating to ITMA can be a tax efficient way of making more and more archival material accessible to remote users.

    General George Armstrong Custer of the old U.S. Seventh Cavalry is very much associated with this walking march, and is said to have had his fife and drum band play it when he and his troops were on their way to the Battle of the Little Bighorn in Montana in 1876. Garryown is in Co. Limerick, which is where the tune is said to have originated.
