Fiddle player Joe Delaney of Edenderry, Co. Offaly played this one for me from a book of written music which he found in his fiddle case. He always said it reminded him of his young days of ‘going out with the wren’ on Saint Stephen’s Day. He also said that the rhythm of this tune gave his mind an image of his mother churning for butter.
