During the early days when the B/C box was introduced by the musicianship of Tipperary’s Paddy O’Brien, very few box players could read from music books, except for Paddy himself! This hornpipe is one he plucked from O’Neill’s 1850 collection. It was an immediate choice among 1950s box players and also played regularly at Fleadh Cheoil competitions. Its title suggests a fiddling showdown that may have brought out the best in talent or exhibition.
