John Doherty’s playing of this was given to me in 1969 by Donal Ward, who comes from Carrick, Co. Donegal. It was a tape of John from Donal’s uncle Coleman Ward. The tune seems to have been born on a piper’s instrument with cranning suggested on the low D of the first part.
