The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
Named after the battle of Bunker Hill (fought near Boston harbor on June 17, 1775), this reel was first recorded in 1959 by Peadar O’Loughlin, P. J. Hayes and Paddy Canny. It’s another one that Captain Francis O’Neill found eligible for his collection. I first heard and learned it from Joe Delaney of whom I’ve already written.
