from Compositions by Jillian O’Malley
I heard the turn of phrase ‘between hoppin’ and trottin’ in recordings made by Richie Piggott of Tom O’Malley (1932–2021) from Doughmakeon, near Louisburgh, Co. Mayo, who immigrated to Chicago in 1950. I really enjoyed listening to his many hours of stories, as well as his distinctive accent, which remains characteristic of the area today.
