The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
Irish for “as yet unnamed”, this jig was originally a part of a larger piece of music, also called “Gan Ainm Fós”, for which I was commissioned to write for the Rockport Celtic Music Festival in the fall of 2025. The full form of the piece explores repetition, something that is embodied in all melodies of Irish music. Those of us who play Irish music expect to interact with tunes over and over and over again and each time we return to a tune, we hope to (and tend to) find something new. Each tune is a story that has many possible outcomes. Each tune for me is constantly in a state of ‘in-between’ — always in motion, always transforming, evolving, and becoming.
