Near the village of Tulsk in County Roscommon lies Rathcroghan, home to The Cave of the Cats, or Oweynagat, a Neolithic site long believed to be the entrance to the Celtic Otherworld. According to one of numerous legends, the hero Cú Chulainn was required to enter the cave as a rite of passage. He is also said to have been the only warrior capable of defeating the magical wildcats that dwelt within.
