from Compositions by Hannah O’Brien
This tune originated from a school project where I was tasked with writing an underlying musical motif and putting a melody on top that did not match (much different from my usual melody first approach). I wound up with this tune that reminds me of some of the first marches I learned as a kid. I love their melancholy feel, but also more importantly how these tunes can fit and adapt to different situations. Many marches I associate with sadness and grief, but also celebration and remembrance. “The Fool’s March” is a slightly modern take on an age-old traditional form.
