The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is delighted to present a new series of free daytime traditional music classes for adult players in Miltown Malbay, supported by The Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation.
Open to players of any traditional instrument, these are not technical classes specific to the tutor’s instrument. Instead, the emphasis will be on repertoire, older tunes, local musicians, regional styles and the stories connected to the music.
Participants should already be able to play a little, as the classes are not intended for complete beginners. Tutors may teach by ear, through notation or a combination of both, and each tutor will structure their session in their own way. The final half hour of each class will be a relaxed group session, giving everyone an opportunity to play familiar session tunes together.

The series is being developed as a pilot programme, creating an accessible daytime opportunity for adult musicians to expand their repertoire, learn from leading traditional musicians and, importantly, play music together.
