There are many settings of this in Ireland. It’s also widely played by many old-timey fiddlers in the U.S. My playing of it is inpired by the pipe setting of Séamus Ennis. I’ve also been drawn to Julia Clifford’s and Denis Murphy’s slightly different way of expressing it. At a conservative guess, I’d venture to say that this is in the region of 150 years old.
