We have been visiting Corsica and our friends from the group “Tutti in Piazza” since 2001. We have taught them many sets and always enjoyed dancing their quadrilles. The Corsican culture had declined over the centuries for a number of reasons, resulting in a loss of the language and music. However, their dance culture remained very strong and they have many beautiful dances. They are very reminiscent of the early quadrilles which were the origins of our own set dances. The movements were called by the leader of the dance. There are up to 100 movements and the order changed according to the caller. We have taken some of the more common and beautiful movements and incorporated them into three figures of a set. Thank you to Monique, Minicale, Michelle, Andre, Jean-Claude
The YouTube links below show the Corsican Set recorded by Monique Alfonsi, one of the leaders of the Tutti in Piazza group from Ajjaccio. The set was recorded at the Termonfeckin Set Dancing Festival which Pádraig and Róisín organise in An Grianán each January.
