    The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.

    Make your donation go further: a donation of €250 or more in any tax year is worth an additional 44.93% to ITMA. So for €50 more, ITMA can claim an additional €112.33 tax back from revenue.

    Irish-based donors can see their donations augmented by the State through the CHY3 form, which makes any donation above €250 worth €362.33 towards ITMA’s archival work, at no additional cost to you.

    ITMA is eligible for 501(c)3 donations, so for potential donors based in the USA, donating to ITMA can be a tax efficient way of making more and more archival material accessible to remote users.

    Discover, Explore and Remember

    The items in this collection appeared as a microsite on the ITMA website from 2018-2024.  It was curated by Rebecca Draisey-Colishaw from the Aidan O’Hara Collection.  Aidan lived in Newfoundland in the 1970s and recorded many singers and musicians while he was there. The collection centres around the songs, stories and recitations that were heard at a ‘time’, the term for a house gathering in Newfoundland.  Included in the collection are:

    • 62 audio recordings of songs, recitations and stories, including song words and information about each song.
    • 5 videos, including footage from the original Radharc documentary ‘The Forgotten Irish’ that Aidan O’Hara made for RTÉ and interviews with the collector from 2017 where he reflects on his collection and his time in Newfoundland.
    • 43 images taken by Aidan O’Hara and Len Penton
    • 47 written transcripts of songs
    • 25 performer biographies
    • 3 collector biographes
    • 3 essays contextualising the content and the people, written by Rebecca Draisey-Collishaw

    The original microsite was funded by the Arts Council and The Arts Council of Northern Ireland with assistance from Culture Ireland, as well as local partners in Newfoundland: The Town of Branch, The Rooms, and The Newfoundland Folk Festival.
