Duala: Creator‑in‑Residence Scheme 2018

The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) and the Arts Office of Clare County Council are offering an exciting opportunity for an emerging or established artist from any artistic genre. Artists (musicians, visual artists, dancers, writers, performers, etc.) are invited to reflect /respond creatively to the collections and materials that are of relevance or reference County Clare, which are held in ITMA.

The Duala Residency is co-sponsored by Clare Arts Office & ITMA and provides

  • Special access to ITMA research facilities and collections
  • Dedicated research work space in ITMA and Clare Arts Office, if required
  • Access to ITMA’s sound recording studio, if required
  • Dedicated ITMA mentor, Alan Woods
  • Opportunity to engage with ITMA & Clare Arts Office communities through blogs, social media, events
  • Opportunity to showcase new work
  • €8,000 for travel expenses, accommodation, artist fees and project expenses (maximum available budget)

The Residency will take place over a non-consecutive period of dates from October 2018. The Residency will require attendance at the ITMA in Dublin.

Who can apply?

  • Emerging or established individual artists
  • Artists working in any genre / artform. Applicants from outside traditional music are particularly welcome
  • Applications involving more than 2 artists will not be considered
  • Applicants must be over 18

Application Procedure

Applicants must submit their application to Clare Arts Office by email to [email protected] with the title DUALA Application in the subject line.

Hard copy applications will not be accepted. Late applications will not be accepted. Closing date for applications is 14 September 2018.

Applications in Irish are welcome.

To be eligible for consideration, please email ALL of the following:

  • Project Proposal (maximum 3 A4 pages)
  • Links to 3 samples of existing work (can include work in progress)or attachments (jpgs in the case of visual artists). Total file size not to exceed 5MB
  • Current CV (maximum 3 A4 pages)
  • Proposed budget (Please note the maximum award is €8,000 inclusive of VAT for travel support, accommodation, artist fees and project expenses)
  • Proposed timeline for residency
