Re-Creations from Joyce

Patrick Weston Joyce’s work in Irish traditional music has a continuing value. It throws a unique light on Irish musical culture and practice of the past, especially that of the Limerick region, and it has preserved for analysis and study a large body of music from pre-Famine Ireland that might otherwise have disappeared. But more importantly his collections provide music and song of the past for re-creation by musicians and singers of the present day.

A variety of samples of such re-creation are presented here, courtesy of a number of musicians and singers who have had different connections in the past with the work of Joyce and who have kindly agreed to record their choice of items from his collections for this site.
