It being in the year of sixty-nine on the fourteenth day of June
When daisies and primroses and violets were in bloom
As I roamed for recreation so carelessly I roamed
For to view the grand improvements on the banks of sweet Drumboe.

I came to view this grand demesne I scarcely got time
Each bush and tree as you may see was flourishing in its prime
Green rows they were planted for to decorate the main
And a watchman there for to take care of the beautiful grand demesne.

The owner of this grand demesne he was one Sir Samuel Hughes
And if I had got learning I would surely sing his praise
His father was a nobleman I can tell you one and all
That he pledged his words in honour of the county Donegal.

So now to conclude and finish up the summer is setting in
Drumboe it is a lovely place all on the water fen
The fish being on the other side where the trout and salmon play
It’s the beauty of old Ireland all on a summer’s day.
