Material from the ITMA Sound Archive Features in Europeana Blog

In 2014, ITMA partnered with Europeana Sounds. As part of a €6.14-million project that ran over three years, libraries and archives from all over Europe worked together to make more than 1,000,000 sound records and sound-related objects freely available online. Some of the recordings that ITMA provided are now appearing in blogs associated with that project.

"The song legacy of Scottish-Irish Migration" is just one example of what can happen when sound archivists and librarians coordinate their efforts. Using materials brought together on, scholars, archivists, and informed enthusiasts can draw connections between the many musical traditions found throughout Europe. Many thanks to blogger Chris Wright of Tobar an Dualchais, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Isle of Skye, Scotland for shining a light on materials from the ITMA Digital Library, but also for showing how migrations between Scotland and Ireland have helped to shape our musical heritage.
