ITMA, in partnership with Traidphicnic, are delighted to introduce learners to a selection of ITMA's free online interactive music scores, in the company of Johnny Óg Connolly, Clíodhna Costello, and Pádraig Ó Dubhghaill.
The three jigs we hope you will enjoy and learn are from P.W. Joyce's Old Irish Folk Music and Songs published in 1909: Untitled Jig; Connolly's Ale and Foxy Mary.
Prior to the COVID-19 restrictions, it was intended that Johnny, Clíodhna and Pádraig would visit ITMA at 73 Merrion Square, Dublin, in March as 'Musicians in Residence' to research rare tunes and shine a light on material relating to Connemara which could be subsequently performed at Traidphicnic in July. Of course as we all know plans did not take the course intended.
However as an innovative alternative to physically visiting ITMA, it was decided that the trio would use PORT, ITMA's free online interactive music score platform. The three jigs featured were selected by the musicians for online performance during Traidphicnic.
We are delighted to have connected these excellent performers with the archival material in this performance.
