Celebrating Goodman: Seminar, Launch & Concert
Time: 14:00 GMT Date: Thursday 20 October 2016 Venue: 73 Merrion Square, Dublin 2 Event OverJames Goodman (1828–1896), a native of Dingle, Co. Kerry, was a canon of the Church of Ireland and Professor of Irish in Trinity College Dublin. However he is now chiefly known as the compiler of an outstanding Irish traditional music manuscript collection containing more than 2,300 tunes. The manuscripts are held in the Library of Trinity College.
To mark the occasion of the reprint of Tunes of the Munster Pipers Volume 1 and the announcement of the ITMA/TCD Goodman Digital Project, we welcome you to join us in 73 Merrion Square, Dublin for an afternoon of short presentations on Canon James Goodman and his collection.
Guest speakers: Lisa Shields, co-editor of Tunes of the Munster Pipers Volume 2; Roy Stanley, Music Librarian, TCD; Nicholas Carolan, Director Emeritus ITMA and Emer Mayock, member of the Goodman Trio.
In the course of the afternoon Grace Toland, ITMA Director, will formally launch both the Tunes of the Munster Pipers Volume 1 reprint and the ITMA/TCD Goodman Digital Project.
Later that evening ITMA will host a ticketed concert with the Goodman Trio (Mick O'Brien, uilleann pipes, Emer Mayock, flute & Aoife Ní Bhriain, fiddle) whose performances and recording have been influential in bringing music from the Goodman Collection to contemporary audiences.
