Very common, usually recited. For other versions see N Douglas’s London street games (1931:29); Opie and Opie’s The lore and language of schoolchildren (1967:13, 159); L Daiken’s Out goes she (1963:32); JTR Ritchie’s The singing street (1964:107). a version from Salford is recorded on Ewan McColl and Dominic Behan’s The singing streets, (1958: Folkways LP FW 8501), and was printed with a melody in the Journal of the Irish Folk Song Society 14 (1914:36).
