Far across the Indian ocean ‘neath a little Indian star
Dwells a little dusky maiden on the coast of Malabar
In the harbour where we anchored I could see her shy and sweet
With a lotus on her bosom and the wild waves at her feet.

Come to me I hear her calling o’er the ocean wide and far
Come to me again and love me on the coast of Malabar.

Many’s the hour I spent along with her ‘neath the palm trees green and tall
And many’s the time I danced along with her inside the city wall
She would lift her little dusky face and she’d gaze across the bay
And she’d whisper if you love me then why do you sail away.

I must go my Indian maiden I must leave you Indian star
But I’ll return and dwell forever on the coast of Malabar.
