The Irish Traditional Music Archive asks you to help the Archive in its work of collecting, preserving and cataloguing Irish traditional music, and making it available to the general public, now and in the future, in a wide variety of ways.

The day-to-day activities of the Archive are generously supported by the Arts Council/ An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and it also receives project funding from a variety of sponsors. But the Archive is in need of further financial support to extend its activities to a higher level.

In the present highly active state of Irish traditional music, additional funding will enable the Archive to:

  • Acquire private sound recordings of Irish music world-wide
  • Acquire materials which now go to collections overseas
  • 'Repatriate' Irish music materials from other collections world-wide
  • Digitise fragile and unique material for public access
  • Make its unique computer catalogues available on the Internet
  • Publish treasures from its own and other collections

The Archive has many publishing projects in active development: sound recordings of Traveller music and Irish-Newfoundland music; books of the complete instrumental collections of Capt Francis O'Neill, of the music and song collected by Edward Bunting, and of the comparative music collections made by William Forde around the time of the Famine.

In order to bring these and other projects to fruition, we ask you to support the Archive by becoming a Friend for the current year by filling in the form, or for several years by completing the banker's order. The minimum annual subscription is €20 or its equivalent in other currencies; students and concessionaries are at the annual rate of €10. Members avail of a discounted price of 20% on the Archive's publications and are kept informed of new developments.

The Archive is a charity (CHY 9283) and is an Approved Body under the terms of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997. Donations of €250 and upwards are deductible against tax by self-assessed and corporate donors under certain conditions. In every case the Archive receives more than the donor actually gives. We can take credit card payments by phone – Mastercard or Visa. Receipts are issued.

We hope that you will support this expansion of facilities and services by becoming a member of our Friends, in the knowledge that your investment in the present will ensure that the richness of our musical past will live into the future. Please bring the Archive and its activities to the attention of those who would benefit from its activities and of new potential supporters, and please let us know of anyone to whom we could send publicity.
