Tunes from the Goodman Manuscripts

ITMA welcomes the launch of a new CD by Mick O’Brien (uilleann pipes, flute, whistle), Emer Mayock (flute, whistle) & Aoife Ní Bhriain (fiddle): TUNES FROM THE GOODMAN MANUSCRIPTS. The tunes are drawn from ITMA’s 1998 book publication Tunes of the Munster Pipers, edited by Hugh Shields from the 1860s music manuscripts of Canon James Goodman (a second volume of selections is nearing completion). One of the aims of the original publication was to provide contemporary musicians with ‘new’ traditional music which they might re-create for the present time, and many musicians, especially uilleann pipers, now include Goodman tunes in their repertories. This CD is the largest recorded selection to date from the Goodman manuscripts, and is splendidly arranged and played, as would be expected from the musicians here involved in the project.
