Wheelchair Access

All materials in the Archive collections can be accessed in the dedicated ground-floor area for disabled access.

This area has adjustable-level tables; Emacs for accessing the Archive's databases, listening to CDs and watching DVDs; and a phone link enabling users to order material and contact staff for any requirements they may have. There is also a toilet for disabled users.

The Archive and the Office of Public Works have made every effort to make the building accessible to all but because 73 Merrion Square is a listed building and is therefore governed by heritage legislation, there have been some necessary restrictions.

The Archive has a mews entrance on Fitzwilliam Lane (facing the rear of Hackett's Stationery). There is a temporary ramp (see picture) into the building and a stair lift (not a chair lift – see pictures) up three steps in the hallway. Please ring ahead if you require wheelchair access.

Please note: Staff are not in a position to physically assist members of the public. It is recommended that if assistance is required a suitably qualified person is in accompaniment.
