Recording
Since 1993 the Archive has been involved in a programme of audio and video field and studio recording of singers, musicians and dancers, some in multiple sessions. The resulting recordings are being systematically transferred to CD or DVD and catalogued, and many are already available for consultation in the Archive.
Given sufficent notice and dependant on staff resources, the Archive can transfer original field recordings to user-friendly formats for reference listening within the Archive.
Before the move to 73 Merrion Square, space constraints made studio recording increasingly unviable but field recording practices were expanded to include VHS, and more recently DVCAM (Digital Video Camera) recording. All Archive field recordings from 2000–2008 have been transferred to DVD and are now available for public consultation. Studio audio and video recording is scheduled to recommence in 2008.
