FinancesThe Archive was founded in 1987 as the result of initiatives from the traditional music community and of a policy decision of the Arts Council/ An Chomhairle Ealaíon in Dublin to award it an inital pilot grant. The Council appointed the first Board of the Archive and provided it with its constitution. The Archive is now funded year-on-year by the Arts Council/ An Chomhairle Ealaíon in Dublin as a Regularly Funded Organisation, and also by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland in Belfast, and by individual donors, especially through its support group Friends of the Archive. The Archive has recently achieved other significant State support. It has been allocated a historic Georgian house in central Dublin as its premises through the Office of Public Works, which has conserved and restored the building to the highest standards, and which is engaged in a continuing programme of further facility development. The Archive also receives project funding from sponsors such as the Heritage Council, Cairde na Cruite, and the Ireland Newfoundland Partnership. In addition it receives support in kind from publishers and from hundreds of private donors. The Archive, however, is always in need of further financial support to extend its existing activities, to introduce new services, and to meet the exciting challenges of its new premises.
